New Evening Classes at Deepfired Ceramic Studio

Enrolment has started for a new series of evening classes at the studio. Introduction to Ceramics will run three times this year with courses starting in May, August and October. Each courses will run for 8 Monday evenings and is £120 for tuition, materials and all firings.

If you have completed the introductory course and wish to continue to develop your skills and ideas or if you have previous experience of ceramics and need a place to make your work, the new Wednesday evening session may be what you're looking for. There will be no structured teaching as students will be expected to initiate their own projects although technical assistance willl be provided. The Wednesday evening blocks (8 evenings per block) start in May, August and November and cost £120 for materials, firings and technical assistance (material & firing costs may be higher if you work in stoneware or porcelain). Please call the studio first to discuss your needs before booking.

8 schools in Knightswood, Westerton and Drumchapel were involved in the creation of the new tiled steps, mosaiced bollards and recycled glass pavers beside the Forth & Clyde Canal at Rotherwood Avenue and Wyvis Quadrant thanks to the Waterways Trust Scotland. Giffnock Primary School mosaic unveiled

Julia has been working with pupils from Giffnock Primary School to create a mosaic to commemorate the school's centenary.
The mosaic is a combination of handmade tiles by the children, old school photographs and other imagery digitally transfer printed on and mosaic tiles.

Calvay Metal Sign August 2006

Calvay Housing Association commissioned Julia Smith & Stephanie Connelly to design and make a sign to mark the area of Calvay with local children.

Exhibition in Carluke May 2006

Julia recently exhibited new work created during a 7 week residency at Forth Primary School.
The exhibition was at Carluke District Hall on the 19th & 20th May.

Stained Glass Windows in Provanhall
April 2006

Julia and artist Stephanie Connelly have just installed 3 stained glass windows within the foyer at Provanhall Housing Association's new offices.
The windows were designed and made through a series of workshops with the local Provanhall youth club.

Linthouse Urban Village Creative Shop fronts
April 2006

Julia along with four other artists has been working on the LUV creative shop fronts project for over two years.
The exteriors of the shops along Govan Road in Linthouse were redesigned through a series of workshops in the area. The new shop fronts are now nearly all completed and there will be an opening event soon.
